From the very beginning, it was intended as a basketball shoe; previously, NBA players complained about the shoe's lack of durability, which fell apart during aggressive play. The Nike Air Force One (named after the US presidential plane) quickly became beloved on American streets, especially in Harlem, which is considered the birthplace of the AF1.
